1.028

Professor Zorann Petrovici stands out through a remarkable professional path built on academic excellence, intellectual integrity, and a profound commitment to both European and Romanian values, at a time when higher education is in urgent need of solid intellectual references and genuine vocations.

Originally from Nădrag, in Timiș County, and educated in two of Europe’s foremost academic centers, Madrid and Paris, Zorann Petrovici embodies the model of the scholar-professor, whose work transcends the boundaries of a conventional university career to become a true endeavour of identity research and cultural diplomacy.

A graduate of the Complutense University of Madrid, where he earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Contemporary History, Professor Petrovici is the author of an award-winning national thesis titled “Mundo nuevo, ¿diplomacia nueva?”, a work that skilfully and scientifically reconstructs the transformations of Spanish diplomacy during the First World War. His postdoctoral research, carried out under the prestigious Margarita Salas programme, led him to the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, where he investigated, through a comparative and deeply European lens, the early development of Spanish commercial diplomacy in parallel with the French model.

Currently, he serves as Professor of History and International Relations at two of Spain’s most prestigious private institutions: the Pontifical University of Comillas and Nebrija University. Author of numerous scholarly publications and coordinator of high-impact academic projects, Zorann Petrovici is also an active promoter of Romanian–Spanish relations, contributing to the cultivation of a shared historical memory between the two nations.

His nomination, with an overwhelming score of 198 out of 200 votes, in the University Education category of the fifth edition (2025–2026) of the Romanians of Excellence in the West campaign, is not only a recognition of an impeccable academic career, but also a tribute to a vocation devoted to truth and knowledge.

In a milestone year for Occidentul Românesc, which celebrates 15 years of uninterrupted monthly publication, this distinction takes on special meaning. Professor Zorann Petrovici emerges as a symbol of a generation of Romanian intellectuals who, far from home, continue to serve Romania with competence, balance, and dignity.
