In the presence of Romania’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Laura Popescu, the Consulate General of Romania in London launched the concept “More Than a Consulate – A Community Hub” together with its 2025–2028 Strategic Objectives, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the institution’s relationship with the Romanian community in the United Kingdom.

The event constitutes an institutional first: the Consulate General of Romania in London is the first Romanian consular mission to develop and implement an innovative Community Hub model, n evolved form of consulate that is open to and oriented toward people.

This transformation is the result of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ investment in modernizing consular infrastructure and adapting it to the real needs of Romanian citizens abroad. The goal is to create an institutional space that goes beyond administrative functions, becoming a catalyst for cooperation and community dialogue.

Through this new concept, the Consulate General of Romania in London introduces an integrated approach to public service: the institution becomes a living, dynamic space for collaboration and civic participation.

The new facilities, a conference hall, multifunctional spaces, and areas dedicated to vulnerable persons, will be open to NGOs, professional associations, academia, religious communities, and institutional partners for educational, cultural, and social projects.

Thus, the Consulate becomes a meeting point between institutions and citizens, between initiative and tangible support, between the community’s real needs and the Romanian state’s capacity to understand and address them.

The new consular model is articulated around five strategic directions:

  • Partnership: an active, ongoing relationship with the Romanian community in the United Kingdom;

  • Accessibility: modern, streamlined, and citizen-oriented services;

  • Consular excellence: high standards and best practices replicable across the consular network;

  • Institutional cooperation: strengthened partnerships with British, Romanian, and European authorities;

  • High-performing team: motivated, well-trained officials dedicated to public service.

“The Romanian Community Hub represents a vision of authentic cooperation and partnerships—a consulate that acts where the community truly needs it. It is both a standard and a public commitment we assume,” stated Robert D. Marin, Consul General of Romania in London.

By launching this concept, the Consulate General of Romania in London ushers in a new paradigm of diplomatic representation, one in which the institution is no longer merely an administrative point of contact, but an active participant in social cohesion and intercultural dialogue.

The strong attendance at the launch event and the interest expressed by community organizations confirm the need for a shared framework for action, grounded in transparency, trust, and mutual respect.

The Consulate General of Romania in London reaffirms its commitment to remain close to Romanian citizens in the United Kingdom, offering European-standard services, ongoing dialogue, and an institutional culture founded on professionalism, efficiency, and openness.
