1.539

There are individuals who not only witness the passing of eras but ennoble them through their work. Angela Avram Giurgiu is one of those distinguished presences in Romania’s cultural and media landscape, a name that evokes professionalism, balance, and a deep sense of public responsibility. With a career spanning decades and disciplines, she has built a reputation not only through performance, but also through dignity, intellectual rigor, and authentic civic involvement.

A native of Romania’s capital, Angela embraced the idea of solid academic training from the very beginning. She earned an engineering degree from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest, followed by a degree in theology from the University Theological Institute, and later completed a Master’s in Political Marketing and Electoral Campaigns at the prestigious National University of Political Studies and Public Administration. This unique convergence of science, spirituality, and political science reflects the breadth of her interests and the depth of her thinking.

Professionally, Angela Avram Giurgiu became a cornerstone of Romanian National Television, where she served the public interest with rare dedication for nearly thirty years. As a moderator, producer, and creator, she brought to life influential programs such as Eforum, Casa mea („My Home”), and Europa pur și simplu („Europe, Plain and Simple”). Through them, she created spaces for honest, balanced dialogue, where information, not sensationalism, was the central value.

Beyond the studio lights, Angela has been and remains a discreet yet essential mentor for generations of women active in public life, equipping them with the tools for effective communication and the courage to speak up. Through her work with prestigious organizations like the Romanian Anti-AIDS Association and Pro Democracy, she has placed her expertise in the service of civic causes, demonstrating that journalism is not merely a profession, but a social calling.

The „Romanian Excellence Trophy – Alexandru Ciorănescu”, awarded during the 4th edition of the Romanians of Excellence Campaign held in Tenerife in November 2024, is a natural recognition of a life dedicated to truth, fairness, and meaningful values. Angela Avram Giurgiu is more than a journalist, she is a voice of conscience. A warm and firm presence, a moral compass in a world often searching for meaning and balance.

Testimony of Angela Avram Giurgiu:

„The Romanian Excellence Trophy – Alexandru Ciorănescu is, for me, the equivalent of a million sincere, invisible, yet deeply felt applauses. In the world of television, where the connection with the public is mediated by the cold but honest lens of the camera, such recognition carries a profound meaning: it means that my voice was heard, that my presence mattered.

I am deeply grateful to the team of Occidentul Românesc for this award, which honors me and places me alongside the true elite of Romanians in the diaspora. The nomination came at a fragile moment in my career. I had just been informed that the program where, for nearly three decades, I tried to be ‘Your Advocate’ was no longer part of TVR International’s schedule. That news unsettled me, but this trophy arrived like a gentle, clear light: a confirmation that the path I took had meaning, that my efforts reached the hearts of those I served, day by day, with dedication and seriousness.

This recognition doesn’t close a chapter, it lights a new flame. It motivates me to continue being, beyond any title or institutional role, ‘Your Advocate’, the one who listens, understands, and ensures the public’s voice is heard where it matters most.

To all of you, at home and abroad, who have granted me your trust, loyalty, and attention over the years: thank you. I remain true to my mission and to my belief that Romanian excellence deserves to be recognized, supported, and celebrated wherever it may be. May we all remain healthy, and keep our dignity alive.”

Angela Avram Giurgiu remains a symbol of moral integrity, intellectual discernment, and authentic communicative talent. The trophy she received is not just official recognition, it stands as a metonymy for a life lived with meaning, in and for the public sphere. Through her carefully spoken words, constant involvement, and quiet, steady work, Angela is not only a journalism professional, but a living emblem of Romanian excellence. In her presence, values take shape, and dignity finds its voice.
